What to Expect at BaseCamp

Doing anything new, especially joining a CrossFit gym, can be intimidating. To remove that barrier of entry we want to explain exactly what to expect when you sign-up for BaseCamp

We will take you from how to sign up all the way to the final moments of your very first BaseCamp class.

Step 1 – Is BaseCamp Right for You?

Before you even sign-up for BaseCamp we need to figure out if it’s the right fit for you! BaseCamp is our beginner CrossFit program held twice a week for 4 weeks. This small group class is meant for people who have little to no CrossFit or exercise experience. You’ll feel right at home if you are:

  • A parent who has not worked out in a while

  • Someone new to CrossFit but has worked out before

  • A person who literally has never stepped into a gym before

Coach’s Tip: Make sure you’re honest with yourself about where you are currently. From day one you can only get fitter!

Step 2 – Signing Up for BaseCamp

Signing up for BaseCamp couldn’t be any easier!

You can visit our Get Started page on our website to find the registration link.

Many of our current members once felt nervous about joining — and now, they can’t imagine their lives without it.

Pro Move: This a small first step that could reap enormous benefits for your health and longevity - SO TAKE IT!

Step 3 – Coming in for your First BaseCamp Class

Nervous. Intimidated. Scared. Doubtful. Those are just a few of the emotions you might feel walking in — and that’s completely normal.

The least we can do is give you a clear idea of what to expect and what to bring.

All you need is a water bottle, sneakers, and clothes you’re comfortable sweating in. We’ll handle everything else.

Location: We’re in the Saranac Lake Plaza, toward the right side as you pull in from the main road.

When you walk through the doors, there might be a class finishing up — don’t worry, they’re not doing the same workout you’ll be doing. Grab a seat on the benches or chairs near the entrance, take a deep breath, and get ready to begin.

Try This: while you are waiting take a nice deep breath - the hard part is over - you made it through the door.

Step 4 – YOUR FIRST CLASS

Be careful — you might get hooked fast. You can try to hate it... but you won’t. Here’s how a typical class runs:

  1. Whiteboard Talk: The instructor will gather the group and give a quick 2-minute CrossFit tidbit (this might be the most “boring” part — but it’s important!).

  2. Workout Overview: You’ll go over the Workout of the Day (WOD). Don’t worry if the terms sound foreign — we’ll break it all down.

  3. Warm-Up: We’ll move together, check in about any injuries or limitations, and prep your body for the day.

  4. Movement Review: Before the workout, we’ll demo and practice each movement, offering any modifications you need.

  5. Workout: Time to train! Your coach will be right there helping you through every rep.

  6. Cool-Down: We’ll finish with stretching and high-fives. The entire class takes about one hour.

Member Quote:

“The people here changed my life...It's a brand new gym but with the same coach and many of the members that I've gotten to know over the past 10 months. 10 months ago I had never touched a barbell in my life, was terrified of running, and had zero confidence in my ability to ever be considered "athletic." Now going to Peak 47 is the highlight of my day and it pours out into every part of my life. I started running 5ks with my daughter this summer, I'm 3 months smoke free (I'd been smoking since I was teen), yesterday I climbed a rope!! The version of me a year ago would never believe any of this if I tried telling her...Go to Peak 47.... I promise you that you won't regret it. <3”
