QUARTERLY HEALTH CHECK-INS

What Makes CrossFit Different?

One of the many reasons CrossFit stands apart is that we can measure results. We record our Back Squat, Fran time, 1-Mile Run, Max Pull-ups, and dozens of other benchmarks. Tracking these numbers over time tells us if our fitness is improving — and the goal isn’t to improve just one, but all of them.

So that raises the question — what is fitness?

Defining Fitness

Traditional definitions fall short. Merriam-Webster defines fitness as “the ability to transmit genes” or “the state of being fit.” But plenty of people who can transmit genes can’t run a mile under 15 minutes, and many live with chronic disease.

CrossFit was the first to create a definition that actually makes sense:

Fitness is increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains.

How We Measure It

CrossFit uses four models to evaluate and guide fitness. One that has always stood out to me — but is often under-utilized — is the Sickness-Wellness-Fitness Continuum.
It’s a simple but powerful idea: every measurable health marker can be plotted somewhere between Sickness, Wellness, and Fitness.

In most gyms, we chart physical performance metrics — your back squat, Fran time, mile run, max pull-ups — but we often forget the health metrics that belong on the same continuum:

  • Blood Pressure

  • Body Fat

  • Bone Density

  • Triglycerides

  • HDL Cholesterol

  • Glycated Hemoglobin (A1c)

  • Muscle Mass

  • And even Mental Health

At Peak 47 CrossFit, we believe these metrics matter just as much as your workouts. That’s why we’re launching Quarterly Health Check-Ins.

Quarterly Health Check-Ins

Each quarter, we’ll take simple, meaningful measurements:
🩸 Blood Pressure
⚖️ Weight
💪 Muscle Mass
📉 Body Fat

Just like your back squat, these numbers will be tracked over time — so we can see real progress in both performance and health.

Our goal is simple: to help you build the most well-rounded fitness possible — and create a powerful buffer against chronic disease.
